Wallpaper hanging and Wallpaper paste

Lim & Handtryck manufactures a wallpaper paste of a dry cellulose kind that is completely free of synthetic chemicals and preservatives.
Wallpaper paste of high density, HD, is preferable since it provides a lot of glue to move the lengths of wallpaper about with only a moderate amount of moisture, i.e. less shrinkage after the wallpaper is hung.

We advise against the use of synthetically supported wallpaper paste that is not water soluble and may leave glue stains. Since cellulose is shiny when dry, all paste remains must carefully but thoroughly be wiped off from the wallpapers open and matt surface while wet before hanging each new length of wallpaper. The easiest way to remove paste is with warm water and a sponge.
Brightly coloured nuances are especially sensitive and must therefore be dried carefully. Use a paperhanger's brush when hanging the wallpaper and avid rollers and plastic scraper to flatten joints.

Edge cutting and Hanging wallpaper

Lim & Handtryck's wallpaper must be cut around the edges!

Note that some patterns with complimentary border must sometimes be cut off from the roll before hanging. We recommend cutting or tearing the lengths with consideration to the wall height and breadth and the pattern's height. Walls are seldom straight, measure carefully before cutting.

Single coloured wallpaper shall not be cut and hung wider than 50 cm. Almost all printed patterns are printed 3 mm wider than the actual wallpaper on both sides to facilitate cutting and pattern alignment.

When hanging wallpaper in the traditional way, the overlapping side of the wallpaper is cut 1,5 mm into the pattern and the overlapped side 10 mm from the pattern's outer edge which means an overlap of 10-12 mm.

If one wants a thin edge, the overlapping side is cut as above but the overlapped side is cut at the pattern's outer edge. This results in a thin edge/ overlap of 1,5 mm. Avoid hanging the wallpaper edge to edge to avoid gaps since the wallpaper shrinks when it dries.

The easiest way to cut the wallpaper is by first applying paste and then carefully fold the wallpaper one fourth from each side. While the wallpaper absorbs the paste the edges are cut as desired.

We recommend that the wallpaper is left to absorb the paste for 10-15 minutes for white paper and 5 minutes for brown knot paper. As a rule, let every other length of wallpaper be pasted and hung respectively.

Responsibility and reservations

Lim & Handtryck's production uses old methods and recipies. Inorganic and sparingly soluble pigment can result in very small dots. Recycled cardboard, so-called knot paper, can contain recycle remains of different colour and shape.
Original rolls and blocks carved in the 18th to the early 20th century may vary in pattern alignment and overlaps since the core is made from aged wood. Our binding agent, water and linseed oil may chalk during a shorter period of time when the wallpaper or paint is newly made or painted.
